Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Can an Old landlord give a satisfaction agreement to one of us and not others on a joint lease?

back in 09 we signed a lease in college, we got evicted because one of my roommates was 1600 behind in rent my other was 1300 and i was 900. the roommate who owed 1300 made an agreements with the landlord and had to pay 2200 to get it settled, in 06/12. I tried to get a copy of the satisfied judgement form and they said it only applies towards that one roommate. But in a joint lease we were all liable for the others rent. So how can it be the opposite when it came to settling the debt for less?
