Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Landlord Inspections

I live in Grand Rapids, MI. The apartment complex I live in has told us that the people that hold the mortgage want to inspect all of the apartments (approx 100). They gave us less than a weeks notice. Are they allowed to do this? I don't like the idea of them just walking in to inspect our apartments, especially since there are no physical reasons for such an intrusion.

Re: Landlord Inspections

Check with the language of your lease for the specific right to enter and notice required. Generally however with several days notice it is allowed. Such an inspection by the mortgage company is not uncommon as they seek to determine that improvements made such as appliances, fixtures, carpeting, etc. were in fact made so the value of the community is improved.
