Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan
I would like to know if it legal for a home own to rent a home they own in Michigan while it is up for sale.

Legally, yes. Just make sure it's a month-to-month lease so you can get the tenant out when you sell. Practically, it may cause problems. A buyer usually won't buy unless you are responsible for removing tenants. If a tenant won't move and you have to go through eviction proceedings, you may lose your buyer.
