Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan
Long story but the question needs to be set up ....My daughter and 2 other tenants that share an apartment had a roommate that terminated her lease early due to an argument she had with one of them. She found someone to be their roommate (from craigslist and being several years older than the rest has had some lively life experiences) without their knowledge and told the landlord that she had everyone's approval. The landlord had a new lease drawn up and wants everyone to sign it which they have not mainly due to not knowing the new tenant (it isn't a sublease but a brand new lease). The landlord is upset with the roommate that moved out, the new person is upset and says she will sue, the roommate that moved out says that my daughter and others can be sued for not signing the lease, etc. The situation is a mess! Everyone except for the outgoing tenant was lied to in order to manipulate getting out of a lease early. Does my daughter have to sign the new lease? Can anyone sue in this type of situation?

Anyone can sue over anything. The best course of action is for your daughter to take all documents to a lawyer to review everything and advise her of her rights, duties and courses or action that are possible.
