Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Michigan Tenant Landlord Law

Hi,

Is it permissible, if one lives in a multi-story house where each flat is leased seperately, to allow new inhabitants into one floor without informing the other renters of how many people or who has moved in? As a matter of safety, we were told that there would be one older occupant moving in downstairs but there has been suspicious activity and 2 more people appear to be living there as opposed to ''just visiting'' as I was told by the landlord. The lease does not specify or necessitate such notification. Perhaps in state law?

State is Michigan, City of Hamtramck.

If it is possible to cite the source of any applicable law, it would be greatly appreciated ;)

Uneasily Renting,

JB

Re: Michigan Tenant Landlord Law

No, a tenant cannot dictate who the landlord leases other apartments to, unless the lease specifically states so. If you are worried about behavior or living arrangements, you should discuss it with your landlord.
