Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan
Rented forclosure
My daughter has been renting a house for 3 months, and has a one-year lease. Someone posted a note on her door saying that the house was forclosed upon and will be sold at auction in three weeks.
What will happen to her lease? Must it be honored by the new owner? What about her securoty deposit and cleaning fee? The landlord lives in a distant state, and the house was rented through a property management company, although the rent is mailed to the landlord.

Re: Rented forclosure
you'd need to contact the management company and inquire to confirm when she has to be move out, and about getting her security deposit back. be glad there was a management company involved and not just a scandalous homeowner ripping her off. since the owner is out of state, it would be hard to get anything back from him, but again, the management company should be able to assist you. and it will also depend on who the contract was signed with - the mgmt comp or the actual owner.
