Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Rent/Eviction

I live in MIchigan and am unable to pay all of my rent on the first of the month. I have half of what is owed and am at this point 2 weeks late paying the full amount. The landlord called us (Nov. 14) and refused to accept the money we have and stated he will start eviction proceedings. We have a one year lease. What sould be my course of action at this time?

Re: Rent/Eviction

Send him a letter enclosing the entire payment. Keep a copy. Inform him that you have not materially breached the lease and that if he evicts you, you will sue him for damages.

Without seeing your lease and knowing more about your situation, I cannot assess your rights. Therefore, my advice cannot be relied upon. It is merely a discussion of legal principles and possible steps to take, but may not in fact be applicable or the best advice for you.
