Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Request for Repairs/Entry without notice

I moved into my apartment in Ypsilanti at the end of 2007. When I moved in, I informed the leasing office of various things around the apartment that needed fixed - window blinds, closet doors, etc.

Within a month I contacted them again because of a water temperature problem. During a short shower at any time of day, the temperature changes from freezing to unbearably hot multiple times. When maintenence came for the water problem, he admitted he felt the temperature problem, but said he had to look into the issue. I called back a few times and he claimed he didn't know what could be causing it. After I sent a very angry email to management, he finally came back a couple months later to fix all the problems previously mentioned and suddenly claimed that he never felt a water temperature problem. We've been living with this for 5 months now.

The final straw was last Thursday. My roommate left for work at 9:30am and returned at 5pm to find a note on the door apologizing for the late notice that they would be entering our apartment that day for an inspection. So we were given less than 7 hours notice. How much notice do they have to give us? What can we do about the water temperature repair and the entry without notice? Thank you!

Re: Request for Repairs/Entry without notice

You should put your complaints in writing and tell them that if the problems are not fixed, you will withhold the rent and have the problem fixed yourself. Furthermore, the landlord is required to give you reasonable notice of inspection and arguably 7 hours is not reasonable.
