Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

My roommate and I recently moved out of our rented house. We left the house "broom clean" and did all of the required things (return key, forward address...). We got a response to our forwarding address saying that our security deposit had been used up fixing the house after we left.

My concern is with the Landlord saying we owe MORE money than the security deposit. We don't agree with the inventory, but the Landlord is difficult and we'd rather forfeit the deposit than fight it. Is there any way to not pay him what we "owe" if we don't fight the inventory?

If you don't at least protest the inventory, you are allowing them to come after you for the difference, unless you negotiate a settlement for that exact amount. Visit www.kliszlaw.com to discuss. Tim Klisz
