Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

Unsigned lease renewal

I never signed my renewal lease agreement for my condo and neither did my landlord, I have an email stating to the landlord that I'd like to renew.

Does this mean I currently have no lease agreement? I am supposed to be in the condo until August but I'd like to move out now. Can they hold me to August since there isn't a signed agreement for this year?

Thank you.

Re: Unsigned lease renewal

I would have to carefully read your old lease, but chances are good you might be able to move sometime soon with no negative consequences. Visit me at www.kliszlaw.com to discuss your options. Tim Klisz

Re: Unsigned lease renewal

Your lease may automatically renew on a month-month basis or a year-year basis. Mr. Klisz is correct that a reading of the lease would be appropriate before making any accurate assessment.
