I recently won a lawsuit (Nov 2006) over a contract dispute. An appeal never occurred. He currently is in contempt and on Jan 2 the judge ordered thatt he has 28 days to make good on the contract or he will go to jail until he makes it good. I have paid $20,800 to my attorney for legal fees and in Nov he gave me a bill for an additional $23,000 that I owe him. If have paid him $500 twice, but just don't have the money to pay him. He paid me a visit Friday and wanted me to sign an contingent agreement and would get 25% of the 1.1 million contact or $275,000. He informed me if I don't sign, he will drop me. What are my options?

If you truely feel that you do not owe the money and are being extorted, go to the Attorney Grievance Commission. However, you will need a new attorney no matter what. So work hard to find one. With no money, you may be forced to enter into a contingency agreement. The lawyer who is most familiar with the case has an advantage. But since you already have a judgment, you may be in good shape. William S. Stern
