Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Michigan

Legal Ethics

I gave a lawyer an upfront $4000 retainer for a divorce over a year ago. I am still not divorced and it doens't seem to be coming soon. However, I am now getting additional charges from my lawyer. I believe much of the delay to be waiting for court dates and mediation appointments which are beyond my control. Is it legally ethical of my lawyer to be charging me more money?

Re: Legal Ethics

You are entitled to a detailed statement of services, charges and costs. Request one in writing. You will then know what you are being charged for and if it is legitimate.

It is ethical for the lawyer to charge you fees based upon your fee agreement and his actual work on your case.
