Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Michigan

Patient / Docter Confidentiality

Can my counselor reveal anything I say in a session to my insurance company? Does having a PPO insurance plan mean I give up the right of having confidentiality in therapy?

Please advise, as this has been done by her own admission.

Re: Patient / Docter Confidentiality

Medical billing always involves giving up some confidentiality. First of all, the fact that you are a patient is compromised. Second, they have to give a diagnosis in order to bill. Welcome to modern medicine. That is why many people seing psychologists pay out of their pocket instead of utilizing the insurance available. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
