Legal Question in Legal Malpractice in Michigan
Professional ethics
I took a tenant to court for trashing our apartment . The tenant got a lawyer and the lawyer is, very obviously, playing games instead of working to resolve the issues. He has, in fact, our right told me, more than once, that I shopuld drop the cas ebecause he's going to make it too expensive for us. What can i do?... Contact the judge?... Conduct the State Ethics review people/... anything?

Re: Professional ethics
My attitude about this stuff is a bit more philosophical. Chances are that anything the lawyer would do would be legal. Some cases can be expensive, such as if they want a jury trial, etc. My attitude is that this is a cost of doing business. Once in a long while, we all make mistakes. You made a mistake with regard to the type of tenant that you rented to. Therefore, your choice is to get a lawyer and kick their butt and make sure that you enforce the verdict or cut your losses and walk away. That is a nice, easy choice. Then, whatever course you take, go for it and don't second guess yourself. Next time, research your tenants better by demanding and checking references, checking court records where they lived before, get lots of info so that if you get a judgment you can collect, etc. William S.
