In order to obtain damages, you would need to prove that your dentist made a mistake or committed malpractice, versus just not making you happy. You could start with a demand letter from a lawyer, outlining your situation and demanding a refund or partial refund. The strength of your "case" also depends on what he promised you, and what was placed in writing. There are a million definitions of a "perfect smile," and while you two disagree, it doesn't necessarily mean he did something wrong-but again, I haven't seen your before and after pictures, so it's difficult for me to fully opine (plus I'm not a cosmetic dentist).

Pursuing a malpractice case would be an uphill battle as you have to retain an expert, pay a few thousand dollars to get an opinion on whether your case has merit or not, and then pursue litigation. In this case, since you aren't seriously hurt, a lawsuit is likely not worth it.

However, a letter from a lawyer may prove worthwhile, depending on the doctor and his attitude/position.

I am sorry for your discomfort - I know how it is - especially with your smile - most people are extra paranoid about their smile and worry about it, even when it might look perfect to others.
