Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Michigan

Surgical item left in the body

My wife had something protruding from her abdomen near a scar from a previous surgery. Our family doctor recommended having a surgeon take a look to see if there was possibly an undisolved internal stitch or something else causing the protrusion. Recently my wife had to undergo surgery to remove what was thought to be an undisolved stitch but actualy turned out to be some sort of surgical clip that was left behind from surgery 5 years ago. As it turns out the same surgeon preformed both surgeries on my wife.

I am not someone who would normally look for compensation but leaving a surgical item in the body seems excessive and we are not even sure if see could develop some sort of medical problem form having this object in her body for the past 5 years. Please advise me if we should pursue any type of legal action.

If a massive infection developed, then of course, it would be worth pursuing. It depends on how serious the second surgery was. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
