Legal Question in Military Law in Michigan

Medical Discharge for Panic Attacks?

I've been a reservist in the Marine Corps for three years. In the last few months, I have been diagnosed with panic attacks/anxiety and been prescribed medication for such. After taking this medication for a few months now, a panic attack is almost garaunteed if I miss taking it. Is this grounds for a medical discharge; and how should I go about bringing it up to my command? I'm also worried they might think I am ''trying to get out'' now that we are set to deploy in the next year or so. Thank you.

Re: Medical Discharge for Panic Attacks?

Have the Doctor treating you for your panic attacks, write a letter to your Commanding Officer describing your conditioin, medications and prognosis. You may be eligible for a medical discharge, but in any event, your command needs to be aware of this. The sooner you do so, the better, otherwise for sure they will think that you "scamming" the system.

Good luck to you.
