Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan

Hello. I got into a bar fight, convicted criminally, but now the guy is bringing a civil suit against me. I moved to VA about a year ago, and while in VA, his attorney "served" me at my mom's house (where I used to live). Do I have a legitimate claim to inadequate service of process? Thanks.

My best guess is that you were served by alternate service, which can be ordered by the Court. Even with possible bad service, you certainly need an attorney to defend you in the case. Any judgment will follow you for life and intentional torts like assault cannot be discharged in Bankruptcy, so that is not an option.
