Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan

My brother was driving his kids mother in an uninsured vehicle. The vehicle was hit by another vehicle and that vehicle was ticketed. However, the mother in his vehicle needed to go to the hospital and received minor treatments. My brother is now being sued by Citizens Insurance Company of America for $15,000 plus loss adjustment costs, court costs, attorney fees and interest. He is barely making his child support payments and cannot afford a lawyer or attorney to help. He was planning on ignoring the paperwork and not showing up for court because he cannot pay for this. Does he have any chance or option??? If he doesn't show up can he go to jail?

Thank you for your time!

I've actually beaten insurance companies on this type of claim. However, if he cannot afford an attorney, that's an issue. Ignoring paperwork is not an option unless you want a default judgment entered against your brother. Then there's the possibility of garnishing wages and collection actions after the judgment is entered.

No jail, but could lead to automatic license suspension if judgment entered. Good luck. www.kliszlaw.com Tim Klisz
