Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan

collecting on a judgement

I live in Va and I have a judgement against a man in Michigan. I need to know what is the best way to go about collecting on it. The judgement was awarded to me from a judge in the Commonwealth of Richmond,Va after the gentleman failed to appear at the court date. ( 2 of them)

Re: collecting on a judgement

you would need an attorney to certify the judgment in Michigan, and then collect on it. I have over 12 years experience with collections in Michigan. Contact me at www.kliszlaw.com to discuss. Tim Klisz

Re: collecting on a judgement

You have to start suit in Michigan and ask the Michigan court to recognize and grant "full faith and credit" to the Virginia judgment. Once judgment is entered in Michigan, you can seize property in Michigan, garnish wages, etc. You may have to conduct a creditors exam to find the property or you may have to spend some money to do an asset check. I have found some of these asset check companies are good, other's worthless. Contact me to discuss details. William S. Stern

You would need to hire an attorney in Michigan, ask the Court to give full faith and credit to the court in your state, conduct a creditor exam, and then either seize property, garnish his wages, or if he still fails to show up, ask the court to hold him in contempt and issue a bench warrant with bond set at the amount he owes. If you need help with this, I have experience in collections and can help you with this.
