Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan
Employment Law/Defamation
I was recently fired from my job for some very, very petty reasons. I don't mind that part so much, as I was going to quit at the end of summer anyway. What I am upset about is that my boss is telling all of my clients (parents/toddlers- I worked at a child development center) that I quit without notice and walked off the job. This is NOT true, and I am very upset she's telling this blatant lie. Is there anything I can do to stop her from saying this?

You can have an attorney send a letter to her on your behalf.

Re: Employment Law/Defamation
You need to put something in writing requesting/demanding that she stop from making defamatory and slanderous comments, AFTER verifying that these "rumors" about her comments are true. You can try writing it yourself, or pay me a few bucks to write something for you (which should scare her pretty well).
By law, a former employer is not allowed to say anything negative when giving a reference to a potential employer, so you likely don't have to fear retaliation (plus she will be scared to say anything negative after a lawyer sends her a letter).
