Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan
My mother-in-law was killed when she was hit by a car last week. She has 5 adult children, 2 of which live in the area and were close to her and the other 3 live out of state and have not had any contact with her in years. The 3 out-of-state children want to file a lawsuit against the 2 drivers that hit her. If they do, are the 2 that were close to her entitled to compensation from it also?

The wrongful death statute sets forth those entitled to claim. They can fight it out between themselves to see whom gets what.
