Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan
Neighbors curse, harass, and have vandalised our house
We have a hobby of birdfeeding. There are no rulings or ordinances against this in our community. Our home backs up to 5 acres of wooded wetlands. We have three neighbors around us who believe that our feeding the birds attracts ''undesirable'' birds such as ducks, doves and pigeons, and undesirable creatures such as racoons, possums, skunk, rabbits, etc.. It is their belief that this is bringing ''filth and disease''. They attempted to have the township pass a birdfeeding ban but failed. So instead of giving up, whenever we step outside we are cursed and sworn at it foul language, intimidated, and feel threatened. One neighbor has pulled out a pellet rifle and shot bird dead in my yard in my presence. My wife is recovering from a brain tumor, suffers from Addison's disease, and the added stress is hazardous to he health. Can the people be sued for harassment? They are trying to drive us from our home.

Absoltuely. There are multiple actions you can take against them. However, the easiest thing to do would be to get a personal protection order against them to keep them away. Document what takes place with a tape recorder. If you wish to discuss this further, contact me at 248-353-9400. Bill Stern
