Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan

Punch in the face

I was out at a local restaurant/bar and was getting money out of an ATM. A person who's wife was attracked to me several years back in college, came up and punched me in the face when I was getting money out of the ATM. He tried to bait me into fighting him, but I refused. There were former students of mine in the area and I would not be a part of it. What are my options? Can he be sued for attacking me? Thanks.

Re: Punch in the face

You could sue your attacker for assault and battery. Your damages would be acual pain/suffering, himulation, etc. - but unless you have a scar you may find that a judge or jury wouldn't give you a lot of money.

Hello, I have received a copy of your inquiry regarding being assaulted. Yes you can sue your assailant. Your recovery would compensate you for your medical bills, lost work, injuries, and pain and suffering. However, it is unlikely that your assailant has insurance that would cover this so any recovery you made would have to come out of his own pocket. That may make the effort fruitless. Give my office a call and schedule an appointment if you wish to follow this further. John C. Talpos (http://www.Mich-Lawyer.com)
