Legal Question in Personal Injury in Michigan
Statutory rape civil case
I am 18. When i was 13 i became involved with a senior at my school which became sexual very quickly. we never had inter course but had oral sex when i was 14. soon after the relationship ended (i was about 16) i developed servere anorexia which hospitalized me costing my parents $25000. I've come to understand that most of what drove this sickness was directly related to the sexual things i had engaged in with 'joe'in middle school. I have secured the council of an attorney but am waiting for a call back. (i've only met with him once to give an overview of the history of what took place) I think he plans to sue 'joe' (who is now 22) for emotional & physical damages that resulted from his engaging in sexual stuff with me at such a young age. my original purpose wasn't to recieve compensation for damages but is seems the only viable option. So my question is, should i win a favorable ruling, how much $ is typically recived by the victim? beyond hospital bills, ie for pain and suffering? i want to repay my parents for what they did for me but i think that some money to live on would help me to get my life in order while i try to get into college. how much can generaly be expected?

If you get a big award, you have to collect. Simply because a piece of paper indicates that you have a judgment in your favor, does not put money into anyone's pocket. This is an expensive case that will require a large investment of time and money on the part of the lawyer. Unless the boy comes from a wealthy home, don't be surprised if the lawyer isn't jumping at taking your case. Bill Stern
