Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

Adding a person to a deed

How does my mother add me, her daughter, to the deed to her home? My father was

deceased in 1980 and I'm not sure anything has been done to it since.

Thank you

Re: Adding a person to a deed

To Whom It May Concern:

This is in response to your email of May 1, 2001, which this office received on June 18, 2001.

Your mother will need to execute a Quit Claim Deed that acknowledges the death of your father, includes the Death Certificate and lists both you and your mother on the deed as joint tenants. However, if it is your mothers intention to execute such a deed as a matter of estate planning it may not be in her best interest to do so for numerous reasons. One example, if someone successfully sued you they could go after the home to satisfy their judgment.
