Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

Hi,

My name is Allison and im having a property dispute with my parents. My parents bought items such as beds, clothes, toys and dishes for me and my daughters. Now my parents own the mobile home that I live in but they dont live there and I pay the utilities as well as lot rent for the home. They told me that if I were to move that they would keep everything that they have paid for and claim to have receipts for these items (beds, clothes, etc.) If these items were given as gifts despite having receipts for them are my parents entitled to keeping these items? I can't wait to hear from you!

Thanks,

Allison

If your parents gave the items to you, with no strings attached, then they are gifts. It sounds like you are doing, or planning on doing something that your parents don't like, and they are using the threat of taking back these items to convince you to do as they wish. Is there a new man in the picture? Are you planning to move out of their home and in with somebody else? Have you taken up any new activities that they feel threaten the children, or their relationship with you or the children? If none of this applies, then your parents are not acting rationally and they are not likely to get a court to order you to give them back clothes, toys or dishes with or without a receipt. The receipt only shows that they paid for the item. It does not spell out the agreement between you and them.
