Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
I need some answers for a cousin of Sqatter's Rights...
I need some answers on Squatter's rights.... My cousin mother had passed away a few years ago. The woman who passed away left her home and property to a grandson, who did not make the mortage payments. The house went into forcloseure. and is not in a Realestates hands. The thing is the cousin who's mother had passed away has a house trailer on the property and has been coming up every weekend for the last 7 years. but before the She had put the house trailer on the property she was coming up every weekend to help out her mother, doing house work, moving the lawn, etc. We were wondering if she could have Squatter's rights to house that's been sold, and to her trailer that's on the properity.. The Trailer has a phone, Electric, Gas, Etc... it would be helpful you could give us any information.. Thank you..

I would think that you may be able to recover the personal property (the trailer and its contents). With regard to your question of "sqautter's rights" - the answer is no because the term is too short (need 15 years of open hostile possession).

In Michigan one can become legally interested in real estate by possession after 15 years if they meet certain statutory requirements. Given the facts of your case you may not meet this legal threshold.
