Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
Apartment
I signed a lease with my ex in november. I moved out 2 weeks later. Hes been paying the apatment since. He lost his job, and didnt tell me tell rent was really late. Now he has 8 days to pay 974 and next months rent is dues in a couple days. Should I try and help him or just let us get evcited? How bad is the for your credit?

Re: Apartment
If you try to help him, then what is going to happen next month, and the month after that? If it is inevitable that he is going to get evicted, then it's better it happens sooner than later. Once evicted, if you still owe rent, they will/can come after both of you.
It will only go on your credit if they get a judgment against you and you don't pay on it. But if you are employed, they will garnish your wages until the entire amount is paid off.
And remember, if they don't get a new tenant in the apartment before November 2007, you are responsible for all the rent through then. The landlord does have a duty to mitigate its damages and find a new tenant, and hopefully they would.
Don't sign a lease with someone next time!
