Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
Association Lien
My homeowners association has sued me for the last 13 months of dues. However 9 months ago my house was foreclosed upon. I know I owe the 4 months prior to the sheriff coming, but do I owe for the 9 months after that too?

Re: Association Lien
Once the sheriff's sale took place and a bank or another person purchased your home, then no, you are not responsible for any dues or assessments as you were not the legal owner of the home. Send the association a letter enclosing a copy of the paperwork that shows the date when the home became the property of someone else. Furthermore, any prior liens should have been discharged during the sheriff's sale, so you should be responsible for the first 4 months either.
