Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

College renter

I've signed a lease for an apt. next semester at school (all but one portion is complete, that being the parent portion)

1. Does every single form related to the lease have to be signed before the lease because official?

2. Rather than monthly payments, they have ''6 payments of...'' for a total of 4 months (and five days in Aug.)

The rates/payments just don't seem to be fair and balanced to typical leases.

My roommate who I will be living with already lives in the unit and will be starting her lease on the 12th of Aug -- since I don't live there now they said they would charge me an extra $160 to move in early -- Does this sound legal?

These are seperate leases in the same unit apartment.

Re: College renter

Generally speaking, if you are under age 18, then you can void that contract. As to whether every single form needs to be signed, that depends. If you are under 18 and your parent has not signed on your behalf, then the contract can be voided.

Your landlord is entitled to payment for each day that you spend and typically they will apportion the rent so that if it costs $300 per month for example with a month being 30 days, and you want to move in ten days early, you would have to pay an extra $100. However, if they have other costs incidental to your moving in, then they could add those on two.

It sounds like it would be best for you to have someone with more experience in these matters take a look at the contract.
