Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

We just found out that two liens where placed on some rental property we own. The liens are about 20 years old. They were placed there by our homeowners association. Do they have to refile the liens to keep them current? We feel we do not owe them. At one time they were not a legal, registered association. How

do i find out when they became a legal association?
