Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

My home was sold at a sheriff sale in august and last week a company called saying that if i send them 2000 they will modify my mortgage and my rent will be cheaper, but he want me to sent the money in a cashiers check and he will then send out my paper work . is this legal
