Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
The huge power company, ITC, is suing our neighbors and ourselves, trying to basically steal almost our entire backyards for a mere $3500, calling it "just" compensation. None of us want to sell our property! Our houses would be worth nothing without a backyard and we like our yards anyway! The latest paperwork says we have to file an answer with the court & serve a copy on the other party or take other lawful action. I don't know how to do this, but can't afford a lawyer either. What can I do? Is there anything that can be done here? Can this even happen in America? This is ridiculous!!!
We haven't tried anything yet. But this says we are being sued and if we do nothing that we just lose our property! There is easement, but I have a variance on it and have a permanent structure type pool, also. I also have electricity running out there for it and also an extra outlet that the electrician said I had to have to comply with the codes. I don't know what will happen to that, either!

You need to answer the complaint or you will lose by default. Are you sure they are looking to take your property or just an easement for running lines or buried lines? Hiring a local attorney may be your only option. At least consult with one to see what your rights are.
