land contract/quit claim deed

I singned a land contract and it was not recorded because of past tax payments owing so owner quit claim deeded property to me so I could take care of taxes. Owner was getting ready to be sent to prison for 2-5 yrs and he and I signed paper stating we were canceling land contract and for me not to pay anyone anymore, his family wants me to give them the payments. What legal recourse do they have.Their names have not been on anything and home was owned free and clear.
