Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
lease
I have been renting a car lot for 39 years from the same family, about 2 years ago the landlord contacted me and told me he was raising the rent from 2000.00 a month to 2500.00 or 3000.00, I told him that was unthinkable the way the economy was, now recently he is back asking for a monthly rental from 2000.00 a month to 3000.00 a month, I am on a month-to-month rental, can he raise the rent that high the way the economy is? Is there any defense I can muster up?????

Re: lease
He can raise the rent as much as he wants, as long as he provides you with sufficient notice, and there is nothing in writing preventing him from raising the rent.
