Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
I live in kalamazoo michigan and recently signed a lease, and am now considering breaking said lease in lieu of the discovery of new information. That information pertains to the saftey and crime rate of the area in question which i feel the landlord misrepresented to us (me and my two roomates). I asked questions about incidences of break ins, assault, burglary, violence etc because prior to conversation i was unable to obtain such details in the public record. The landlord talked about how the neighborhood had improved and that crime wasn't really as much of an issue etc. However, i recently discovered online crime statistics that show the incidence of burglary, theft, assualt, criminal sexual conduct and to a minimal degree homicide were much more higher than he intimated. I was wondering if this is perhaps grounds for terminating a lease, we have not yet moved in and have partially paid our security deposit. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

No. It sounds like you just want out of the lease and are trying to find justification. I don't think a judge would let you out on this basis. My 2 cents. www.kliszlaw.com. Tim Klisz
