Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan
My mother filed a quick-claim deed for the house she owned (no mortgage). Now that she has passed, there are four of us that all have equal rights to it. My sister lives there rent free, but, I do not want anything to do with the home. Can I force her to sell or pay rent for my portion of the home?

Yes you can force the issue by filing suit against her. It may be costly, but that is the way if negotiations dont work. Visit me at kliszlaw.com to discuss. Tim Klisz
The answer to your question depends on how your mother's deed was worded, drafted, signed, delivered, accepted, and recorded, and whether or not she had a will and/or a trust. You (and your siblings) have several choices, and you should consider all of the avenues before signing or doing anything that can't be undone.
