Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

Property line dispute/ survey incorrect

Purchased house 1&1/2 years ago on a land contract, the mortgage survey we were shown put shed, deck, propane tank on our property. We were assured as recently as 3 months ago that the survey was correct. Our neighbor approached us to ''trade'' land, if we gave him a piece of property on the north side of our land, he would give us what ''we thought we owned''. We just had a new survey done, which will be certified, & we own no where near what the original survey shows. He is correct, the shed, good part of the deck & propane tank are indeed on his land. Where do we go from here? Thank you

Re: Property line dispute/ survey incorrect

You may own the land by adverse possession. You may also have a title insurance policy issue. A consultation with an attorney who can review your documents and specific facts would probably be very helpful to you.

Good luck.
