Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

We purchased a 10 year old bank owned home. The township is withholding a certificate of occupancy unless we provide them a letter stating that if our neighbors complain about their property flooding, we will lower the grade of our property. Apparently the township never gave the builder of our house a certificate of occupancy and did not approve the final grade.

So what's your question? You either want the house, and will go along with the township forcing you to do whatever it takes to make your neighbors happy, or you walk away and let that house be somebody else's problem. Wait, you already bought this house? In that case, you need a lawyer. Your situation makes an excellent point of demonstrating why real estate buyers need a lawyer before they sign on the dotted line.
