Re: can my sister take my house

if the court determined there was an oral agreement and that you owed your sister money, they would rule as such, but cannot force you to put your sister on your house to pay off the debt. however, if your sister gets a judgment against you, and you do not pay it, she can put a lien on the house, which prevents you from refinancing or selling the house without paying her off first. and any judgment/lien will also accrue interest.

I would suggest hiring a lawyer or a mediator to work this out between you and your sister without the need for litigation and more expense, and without the need for a judgment, collection, etc. This can be resolved amicably, which is best in the long run for both of you.

If you want to hire me to mediate the case for you, please contact me over the weekend or next week.

Thanks and good luck.
