Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

How can I as a surviving spouse get the names on our deed changed? I read I only need a certified copy of the death cert. and take it to the register of deeds. Is this correct? I am the only one now on the mortgage as an "unmarried woman".

You can remove your spouses name by recording the death certificate, but then it's in your name only. I would suggest doing a lady bird deed to add beneficiaries after your death. Contact my office to discuss the details. Sorry for your loss. Tim
