Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

Today I left my purse at my desk. I left to my next class I realized my mistake and returned immediately to retrieve it. My teacher had already found it and turned it into lost and found. At lost and found I described my purse and before I knew a man rounded the corner and pulled me into a room where he held up a Baggie with what looked to be a very small vial. He asked do you know what this is I replied no!!! He called me a liar in so many words. I asked him why he had went through my belongings and his reply was quote " cuz I can" unquote. Is this leagal ? Their was. O reason for him to search my purse none my ID and wallet were in plain sight. Please help me thank you
