Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Michigan
Sexual Harassment at Ford Motor Co
My wife is being sexually harassed at work. People have offered her sex, joked about touching her breasts. Supervisors have told her how much they like panties, their dreams about her, offered her better jobs if she left the shift I was on and went to their shift. She has been told that she cannot do certain jobs because she is a woman. One employee asked her repeatedly if she wanted an erotic night. And most recently, she was asked by a black employee (she is white). '' girl you have a white car, white hair, white skin, isn't it time for something different?''.n She is about to quit and it is starting to effcet us at home. I have called the Salary Labor relation woman at the plant and told them to get their people under control. She never called me back and the foreman keeps talking to my wife. I dont want her to quitl, but I do not want her subjected to this. It is a tight nit factory where most of the people are related. She will be harassed even more in other ways if she files a claim. They will move her to a different job like the other women who have complained. What should we do? Thank you.

Your wife needs to file a complaint immediately with the human resources department, or if, none exist, then with management. She should write down what was said to her, by whom and what date and time it occurred. She must go to management and complain in writing about this behavior. Management must act to stop it. If they do not perform an adequate investigation and do not remedy the problem, then you most likely have a very good case. Please call our office toll free at (800) 209-4000 and we can discuss your wife's situation in more detail.

Although you may wish immediate action be taken to protect your wife, she (not you) should speak with an attorney before doing anything. Many sex harassment cases have been compromised because of poorly thought out solutions which often result in retaliation.
My specialty is employment discrimination. I have litigated against Ford in the past and I would be happy to interview her about her problems at work at no charge.
