Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Michigan

Victim of rape.

I was raped several times by a man as a child and I've brought it to the attention of law enforcement. I'm hesitant to write out a statement for various reasons and the police have contacted this man. Yesterday I was given a message by this man to contact his lawyer. My question is what is his lawyer going to say to me? Why does he want me to call his lawyer? Please respond as I dont know what to do.

Re: Victim of rape.

His lawyer is acting in his best interests which are contrary to yours. The lawyer wishes to know your age at the time of the sexual contact, your age now, and the number of years since the man last had a sexual contact with you.

He or she will then want to know whether any force or coercion was used to accomplish the rapes as well as the circumstances existing at the time. You will also be asked why you are reluctant to give the police a written statement.

All of your answers to these questions will be used against you, if possible, to benefit him.

My advice would be NOT to contact his attorney until you have had a chance to speak to a lawyer who will listen to the facts of your relationship with this man and advise you accordingly.

Most lawyers such as myself will give you a free consultation.
