Legal Question in Social Security Law in Michigan
Divorce Settlement
If a person is on Social security disability and thru a
divorce gets someone's retirement money 80,000. is
Social security going to offset their payment to the person
who obtained the 80,000. So it is really not a gain for the
person who gets the 80,000?

Re: Divorce Settlement
If you are receiving regular social security disability benefits (SSDIB) based upon your previous work earnings, then there is no effect upon your disability benefits. If you are receiving SSI disability benefits, then there would likely be an effect upon the SSI benefits you are receiving from SSA. I hope this helps you. If you have furthere questions, please email me.
