Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan

Can I file a complaint against the police dept.

My 19 year old daughter was in possession of one of my vehicles while I was out of state. The police were informed of garbage cans being knocked over at one in the morning. They said they followed the trail to my daughters apt. How they knew which apt. she lived in is a mystery. She denied doing the crime. They called my husband and he went to investigate. He saw no trail. After some time they came back and impounded my vehicle. They would not release it to my husband. When I came back I went to get a release. They never even asked for my ID. They have been on a witch hunt for my daugter for years. Did they have the right to take my vehicle? Can I file a complaint? They finally gave her 3 tickets days later. Reckless driving, leaving the scene and proerty damage.

You can do whatever you like. I think you should consult an attorney before you do anything. First of all ,filing a complaint will most likely effect your daughter's case. Second, it sounds like there is not much evidence supporting their case. Feel free to contact my office to discuss the matter further. Eric I. Kutinsky, Esq. (248) 737-7000
