Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan

My husband was pulled over and arrested last night. I have little knowledge of the actual incident, however I was told that he was arrested due to Licence Plate Fraud. My understanding of this is that the tabs found on our vehicle are not ours, however I believe that someone from his work may be setting him up. I was called and told today that he will be arrained, however they are already notifying me of a possible felony and 1-3 years in jail. I would just like to know more information about this law, and what are the possabilities. Thank you.
