Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan

I got a OWI 3 years ago and at the beginning of summer i went to secretary of state to get my license back, change my address on my license and swap a title. There i was given a pamphlet for the treasury and told to take care of it with them. I did this as soon as I left the SOS. A few weeks ago I went back and put registration and a plate on the car and the next day I got pulled over for "Improper Plate" because the cop said my plate and car did not come up in the system. Then he told me my license was suspended and I assured him that it couldn't be because I had been to secretary of state twice to take care of both my license and car. He let me go but still issued me the DWLS and a warning for my plate and told me that the SOS was lazy for not telling me my lisence was suspended and to go back and get the registration fixed. I went to the SOS 2 days later and they said my registration was fine that it takes 24 hours to get into the system and found I had a reinstatement fee that I had to pay to get my license back and ended up yelling at the people for not telling me this either of the two times I had been in there. I payed the fee and they apologized and said I was totally legal to drive now and to simply talk to the judge that I should get it dropped. My question is....Should I hire a lawyer? I was done with all the fees and whatnot and am a fulltime college student that can barely afford a lawyer let alone all the fines and license suspension that go with a DWLS if I receive this charge.

You should be OK without a lawyer. Plead not guilty at your arraignment and then present your case to the prosecutor at your pretrial. - although you might get lucky and get it dismissed at your arraignment if the magistrate is so inclined.
