Legal Question in Traffic Law in Michigan

Police coming into private property?

I was driving home, and a state trooper pulled behind me, at least 3 car lengths away. I turned into a auto parts store to buy antifreeze. While in the store the trooper came into the store and made me go outside to my vehicle. He then asked if i had my insurance, license, registration.... While opening my door to look for it, the officer walked over and smelt in my car and asked if i had any marijuana on me or in the car. I admitted i had 2 roaches, and told him they were in the ashtray. My license plate tab was expired, and i got driving without insurance, and possession of marijuana, misdeameanor. My question is, did he have a right to come into the store to get me? The store workers did not call the police to come in and get me....

Re: Police coming into private property?

It sounds as though everything the police did was valid.
